About Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA):

SCA Background
The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) has been working in Afghanistan since 1982, presently managing development Programmes concerning Health, Education, Rural Livelihoods and Community Governance, with a total annual budget of roughly USD 40 million. The total number of staff is around 5,500. During the last 10 years SCA has undertaken a change process moving from a primarily humanitarian service delivery approach towards more of a developmental role, putting increasing emphasis on capacity development, rights-based programming and outcome orientation. The mission of SCA is to empower individuals, communities and local organizations, primarily in rural areas and with particular focus on women, girls, boys and vulnerable groups such as people with disabilities, so that they may participate fully in society and influence their own development. Scope of work:
This is an academic post established to teach midwifery students the materials in the new midwifery and community midwifery curriculum.
 

Job Description:

Main Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate a positive academic learning environment
  • Conducts theoretical instruction and supervision of students while in the academic setting.
  • Assess competency of students related to achievement of skills and theoretical knowledge and gives supportive and constructive feedback.
  • Participates in curriculum development, preparation and implementation
  • Participates in student selection and recruitment
  • Assists with maintaining personnel files for all students including record of theoretical knowledge assessment
  • Monitors attendance of students and keeps attendance log.
  • Supports the students throughout the program and offers counseling on personal or study related problems
  • Assists the student to find answers to questions and apply theory to practice
  • Notifies Course Coordinator of any concerns related to student learning and ability
  • Participates in the supervision of support staff of the training center
  • Participates in meetings, report writing and dissemination of information related to the program as requested
  • Liaises with clinical preceptors and other staff in the clinical areas to coordinate the clinical and theoretical aspects of midwifery training.
  • Identifies and participates in personal professional development opportunities to ensure that current best practice standards are used in teaching practice.
  • Assumes responsibility for availability of resources used during the class
     

Job Requirements:

Qualifications & Requirements:
  • Afghan National
  • Professional Midwife
  • Midwife trained in new Curriculum or Midwife with additional training in EOC
  • Successful completion of the National Effective Teaching Skills courses or is prepared to undertake training
  • Familiarity with Competency Based Education
  • Fluent in Dari, Pashto and working knowledge of English
  • Ability to organize work, prepare lesson plans, teach all course materials, supervise, motivate, guide and evaluate students
  • Ability to work with people of different levels and different backgrounds from clinical professionals to support staff
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
